Experiential education at the watershed's source

Each fall the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation partners with the Wasatch-Cache National Forest and the SLC Department of Public Utilities Watershed to educate local 4th and 5th grade students about watershed, alpine ecology and public lands. Fieldtrips take place on weekdays at the beautiful Silver Lake Nature Center, located near Brighton at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

During fieldtrips, volunteer guide responsibilities include giving nature walks, helping collect and sample macroinvertebrates, running environmental education activities and, when necessary, conducting traffic during moose jams!

These fieldtrips run June through September, but are mainly in September. Training is provided in all different aspects of the fieldtrips.
