Snowshoe Fieldtrips for schools and groups

snowshoe fieldtrips

An unforgettable learning experience.

A powerful learning experience out of the classroom, these fieldtrips are designed for 4th and 5th grade students. We have tailored the content of these fieldtrips to reinforce what the students are learning in the classroom. Over the past two years, we have led over 2,100 students on snowshoes on learning expeditions in their mountains backyard.

Lead by both experienced staff and our fantastic volunteers, these programs seek to connect participants with the basic science of their watershed and the natural history of the Wasatch Mountains. After all, it's hard to not want to take care of the source of your drinking water after you have a connection with it!

Students find themselves learning about winter wildlife adaptations, how to track animals in the snow, where their water comes from and about Utah's public lands. On past fieldtrips, we've watched moose (from a safe distance!), listened to coyotes, been surprised by a grouse, watched a mink swim through the water and an ermine on a hunting expedition.

Due to the obstacle of funding for fieldtrips, we raise money each year to ensure we have funding for schools who can not afford the buses! The snowshoes are also free of charge, provided by REI. In fact, these fieldtrips are free, what are you waiting for? Sign up for one! They were sponsored in 2007 by Tubbs Snowshoes.

The fieldtrips are in avalanche safe, rolling terrain that makes it a great opportunity for those who have never been on snowshoes before. Additionally, the curriculum for thes fieldtrips tie into our Fall and Summer fieldtrips, creating a larger impact for those repeat visitors! Here are some further details:
