Free School Fieldtrips Summer, Fall and Winter...
Integrated to reinforce what the students learn in the classroom
We work to get more kids outside, to learn about the ecosystem in their backyard, rather than a far away place like the Arctic or Amazon. Not that these places are not important, but the lessons learned in classroom are heavily reinforced when applied to something the students directly experience.
In the summer and fall, we have fieldtrips at Silver Lake. These focus on watershed, public lands and the macroinvertebrates found therein. Curriculum used ties directly into Salt Lake City Watershed's "Keep it Pure" classroom module. Here are some further details:
- To make a free reservation, call (801) 466-6411
- Available June, July, August and September
- Group up to 60 in size, larger must get permission
- Groups must be 20 or larger
In the winter, we offer free fieldtrips on snowshoes. Sponsored by Tubbs Snowshoes and REI, these fieldtrips are a spectacular way for a student to learn about winter ecology and watershed. The curriculum ties into our summer and fall curriculums, making this an ideal repeat visit to reinforce concepts learned.
These free fieldtrips offer free guiding and snowshoe rentals courtesy of REI. They take place in a safe and level area with zero avalanche danger.
